MudCloth or Bogolan Fini

We hope you Enjoy these design created with the traditional Mali mudcloth imported from Africa. It is a technique of dying cotton cloth with mud. Each piece is 100% cotton and hand-made. The cloth is soaked in a tea made from the bark of a tree. Using wood or other things, the design is then painted on with a solution of mud. The fabric is washed and the solution is reapplied.

Each pattern has symbolism behind it. Among other things-family, social status, a person's character or occupation. And, some symbols have stories behind them. No two pieces will be exactly the same; There may be slight differences in pattern, size, intensity etc.
